How can I contact the Regional Veterans Administration Office?
Write or call the DVA Regional Office, P.O. Box 1437, St. Petersburg, FL 33731, 1-800-827-1000.
How are VA Benefits initiated?
Upon acceptance to Trinity College of Florida, VA eligible students contact the Registrar's Office to initiate the necessary paperwork. A copy of the DD-214 Discharge Papers or a copy of a Certificate of Eligibility is needed. The Registrar's Office will submit documents to the Veterans Administration verifying attendance for eligible veterans at the beginning of each term.
How long does it take to receive the first VA check?
The first check arrives within six to eight weeks, but payments are retroactive to the first day of classes.
Are tuition payments deferred until VA funds are received?
Since the VA check is mailed directly to the student rather than the college, tuition payments cannot be deferred. VA eligible students should make arrangements with the Business Office to make tuition payments in accordance with college deadlines.
What if student status changes while receiving VA education benefits?
If VA eligible students withdraw from school or change training times, the Registrar should be notified immediately. Trinity College of Florida is obligated to report any changes to the Veterans Administration. It is also very important that VA students follow a prescribed degree plan approved by an academic advisor. The VA will pay only for courses applicable to a student's degree program.
How does the receipt of VA educational benefits affect eligibility for other financial aid programs?
Federal regulations require students to submit a copy of their VA award letter to the Financial Aid Office when they apply for other financial assistance. The VA will mail students an award letter explaining benefits for each term. Students may request a copy of this award letter at 800-827-1000. VA benefits are a resource that must be included as a part of the total financial aid package and can affect student eligibility for student loans. VA eligible students are encouraged to consult with a Trinity College of Florida financial aid counselor.
Is it possible to work while receiving VA benefits?
Trinity College of Florida is an approved VA Work Study site. Participating students may receive tax-free payments equal to minimum wage per hour for services performed under this program. More information is available in the Financial Aid Office.
