Hi, my name is Allyson Patiño, I am a student at Trinity, pursuing a counseling degree with a focus on Christian counseling. Initially, I started my college journey with an interest in theology. However, when I discovered the opportunity for a dual degree, I switched to counseling, finding it to be the perfect balance with my theological studies.
I speak highly of the professors at Trinity. They’ve all been incredibly supportive and impactful in my education. I’m especially grateful to Professor Reward, Professor Vega, Professor Castaneda, and Professor Boyce. The personal relationships I’ve built with the faculty mean a lot to me. Their Christ-like character and dedication to both academic and spiritual growth have made a lasting impression. I truly believe they care about us as students, going beyond academics to support us spiritually. I’ve been blessed by their prayers and devotionals.
My goal is to become a licensed Christian counselor, and I plan to pursue my master’s degree in the future. My current work with the youth group at my church, especially the girls’ group I started, has been a great preparation for my career. This role has allowed me to serve in the church while developing practical counseling skills that I believe will benefit me in every area of life.
When I reflect on my time at Trinity, I emphasize the importance of listening to one’s intuition, which I believe is the voice of the Holy Spirit guiding us. I remember feeling uncertain about another college during my application process, and after praying, I decided to stop the application. Later, a coworker recommended Trinity, and although my decision wasn’t immediately clear, I followed the subtle nudges that led me here. Two years later, I’m so grateful for the journey that brought me to Trinity.
To prospective students, I encourage you to trust your instincts and seek God’s guidance in your decisions. To current students, I urge you to appreciate your time at college and be present in the moment. Reflecting on my own experiences, I challenge those who are eager to graduate to shift their perspective and enjoy the college experience. The Christian community and relationships here are what make this time unique and valuable.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude to Trinity. I’m thankful for President Best’s Christ-like leadership, Dr. Holloway’s positive influence, and the staff and faculty’s unwavering love and support. I encourage my peers to invest in their college experience, as the effort we put into the community is truly worth it.
