--> Following God's Call Overseas

Hello, my name is Caleb, and I’m an international student from China. I was born in Spain and raised there, so my cultural background is a mix of European warmth and Chinese roots. When I first arrived in America and came to Trinity, I knew things would be different. The American way of life, especially in terms of social interactions, is a bit more reserved than what I’m used to in Spain. However, I’ve made an effort to adapt by being polite and respectful of cultural differences. Despite the challenges, I’ve really enjoyed being here because of the Christian environment, where I feel the love of Christ in a unique way.

I’m currently pursuing a degree in Biblical studies. Initially, I thought I wanted to help people through psychology, with a strong biblical foundation, because I believe the Bible holds the truth. Today, with mental health becoming such an important issue, I still see counseling as one option for my future. However, after going on a mission trip, I discovered a strong passion for missions. While I don’t see myself as a full-time missionary, I would love to use my language skills—Spanish, English, and Mandarin—to serve in missions around the world. I also find that I enjoy teaching, so pastoral ministry might be another direction I pursue.

This is my first year at Trinity, and the transition from Spain’s educational system has been interesting. In Spain, we focused a lot on memorization, especially in history classes where I had to memorize hundreds of pages. Coming to Trinity, I found the college system much easier in some ways. It’s more practical, with fewer memorization requirements and more emphasis on reading, writing papers, and participating in discussions. I much prefer this approach because, frankly, I don’t remember much of what I memorized back in Spain!

To other international students considering coming to Trinity, I would highly recommend it. Even though it’s a small college, the community here—students and professors alike—are incredibly supportive. They help you grow in your faith and get closer to Christ. Professors are approachable and willing to assist with theological questions or misunderstandings. Students are also very encouraging and will help you solve any problems you might have. The love of Christ is tangible here, and that’s why I would encourage anyone to come to Trinity.
