Hi my name is Cana, and my path to Trinity was anything but traditional. I spent a few years on the mission field, and during that time, I started looking for a college—somewhere far from where I had been sent, which was not Florida. My parents, however, were concerned about the type of credits I would earn if I studied outside the U.S.
When we returned stateside, we visited a small college—what turned out to be Trinity. Initially, I had my heart set on attending a large university and studying environmental science. But after a few conversations with people on campus, my entire perspective on college changed. The moment I walked into Trinity, I knew my calling wasn’t environmental science—it was studying the Bible.
I’m now pursuing a degree in theology, with the goal of teaching.
In high school, I was convinced I would work in environmental science. But my Bible teacher completely changed my view of studying Scripture. He didn’t just teach the Bible—he showed me how to love studying it, to dig deep, and to have meaningful discussions about it. That experience made me realize how important it is for students to develop that skill before they head into college.
Now, my passion is to teach high school students the Bible in a way that prepares them for life. I want to equip them with the ability to study and understand Scripture before they step into the world on their own.
I had my own aspirations, but God had something entirely different in mind. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but once I arrived at Trinity, I realized His plan was so much bigger than mine.
Without a doubt, the relationships with my professors and supervisors have been the most impactful part of my Trinity experience. The level of care and personal investment they show in students is something I wouldn’t find anywhere else.
They don’t just care about my academics—they care about my relationship with God. If I walk into class looking stressed or indifferent, they notice. They pull me aside, check in, and make sure I’m okay. That one-on-one connection with professors is what makes Trinity so special.
Keep an open mind about what God might do in your life. His plans are often far beyond what you imagine.
I wanted a massive university experience. I had no interest in anything else. But the moment I stepped onto Trinity’s campus, God completely changed my direction. If you’re searching for a college—or even if you haven’t started looking yet—be open to where God is leading you. It might not be what you expect, but it will be exactly what you need.
