Spring 2023 Courses

Trinity College’s University Center is partnering again with the C.S. Lewis Society in offering two spring 2023 courses starts January 17th

  • “Systematic Theology 4,” a survey course, meets Tuesdays/Thursdays 2:25 to 3:40 pm (Jan 17-May 4)
  • “Darwinism & Intelligent Design” meets Tuesdays/Thursdays, 1:00-2:15 pm (Jan 17-May 4)
  • Classes do not meet during Spring Break–March 13-17
  • Two options: (1) live, in-person attendance at the Trinity College campus, or (2) connecting remotely, either by live or recorded video. Enrolled students receive a Video Entry Key
  • Location: Trinity College Campus, located at 2430 Welbilt Blvd., Trinity, FL 34655

ISC 1502 Darwinism and Intelligent Design (course is now full)

3 Credit Hours

This course introduces students to the scientific debate over creation, evolution, and intelligent design in the modern era. With a focus on Darwinism’s intensifying paradigm crisis since the 1980s, we will survey (a) basic principles of lab science and historical science, (b) the range of arguments and lines of evidence that are set forth to defend either Darwinism or Intelligent Design, and (c) key discoveries from astronomy, physics, and chemistry that lead to the inference of a designed universe. The relationship of science and Christian Theology will be explored on selected topics in the origins debate.

*THEO 4331 Systematic Theology 4 is a theology survey course. Drop/Add ends Jan. 24th

We study religions which are outside the orbit of “Mere Christianity,” such as Scientology, Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses. We will compare Protestant and Roman Catholic perspectives on biblical teachings. Also this course addresses what the Bible says about the church—both local and universal—and we explore every aspect of the Second Coming of Christ (i.e. the doctrine of eschatology or “last things”).

Founder & Presenter

tom woodward phdDr. Tom Woodward is the Executive Director of the C.S. Lewis Society and has been a professor at Trinity College of Florida, since 1988, teaching courses in science, philosophy, theology, anthropology and communications. His teaching focus has been on Bible, theology and apologetics, with a special focus on world religions and evidence for Christianity. He previously chaired the Department of World Missions and from 2000 to 2014 was chair of the Department of Bible and Theology. Tom is a graduate of Princeton University, obtained his Th.M. in Systematic Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. from the University of South Florida. He authored Doubts about Darwin (a 2004 Book of the Year–Christianity Today magazine) and co-edited Darwinism Under the Microscope with Dr. James Gills. Darwin Strikes Back: Defending the Science of Intelligent Design (2006) continued to trace the history of the debate over Darwinism and design theory, and more recently (2012) Dr. Woodward teamed up with Dr. James Gills to produce The Mysterious Epigenome: What Lies Beyond DNA.
