Work Study Opportunities

Work study is a need-based award given through the FAFSA or state funding. It provides students with the opportunity to work a part-time job, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses and gain work experience while in college.

Student Responsibilities

  • Must submit a FAFSA for eligibility to be determined
  • Must be enrolled at least half time each semester (6 credit hours or more). Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.
  • Be punctual, dependable, and demonstrate a good attitude toward your job
  • Provide your supervisor with a class schedule to determine appropriate work hours
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to be eligible
  • Familiarize yourself with office policies and procedures including but not limited to dress code, appropriate conduct, and failure to adhere to policies.
  • Clock in and out through ADP each shift. Students should only clock in for working time. Students should not record any working time for lunch or breaks.
  • Students should not work more eight hours in one day. Students should not exceed 30 hours of work per week.
  • Students who access confidential information should comply with FERPA standards and should complete FERPA training and sign a confidentiality agreement when necessary.
  • Requests for time off should be submitted in a timely manner as indicated by the supervisor. In case of illness or emergency, students should notify the supervisor promptly.

Hiring Process

  • Submit a FAFSA each year to be reviewed for work study eligibility.
  • Students can speak with the Financial Aid Office or department supervisors directly about open work study positions.
  • Once a supervisor has agreed to hire a student, the supervisor should inform the Financial Aid Office who will draft an employment contract to be signed by student and supervisor. Once signed, this will be delivered to HR who will contact the student directly to complete the hiring paperwork.
