Dr. Dennis Cox
Dennis Cox was born and raised in southern Iowa and went to college at Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois. There he met Sharon in the first month of his freshman year, dated her throughout the next three years, and married during the summer before their senior years at Trinity. Sharon got her BA in elementary education and taught school for three years while Dennis finished his Master of Divinity degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Upon Dennis' graduation they moved to Clearwater Florida where Dennis served one year as a staff intern at Clearwater Community Church. After finishing his internship, they moved to New Port Richey and founded Beacon Community Church in 1974. He pastored there for over 8 years. Dennis went back to school in 1982 at the USF Graduate School getting a Master's degree in Communication and writing his master thesis on Stepfamily relationships. He began counseling in 1982 and started teaching at Trinity College of Florida in 1984 as the Chairman of the Counseling Department. In May of 2015 he began his duties as Vice President of Academic Affairs and in July he closed Trinity Counseling Service which he and Sharon owned for 32 years. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has taught seminars and retreats in marriage and family communication and leadership. He earned his PhD in 2001, writing his Dissertation on identity and role conflict in the Pastoral Marriage.
He and his wife Sharon have been married for over 46 years and have three grown children, Brian, Jason, and Amy. They are also blessed with 4 grandchildren and 2 foster grandchildren.
